Hemsley, Alice Beatrice Jones (Age 89) of Newburg, Maryland.
Alice Beatrice Jones, 89 of Newburg, MD departed this Life on Saturday, March 26, 2011 surrounded by her loving family at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, MD. Alice was born on October 10, 1921, in Newburg, MD to the late Azariah and Julia (Silas) Jones. Alice attended school in Charles County, Maryland to the seventh grade. She would often brag about the knowledge she had with a seventh grade education than we had with a High School Diploma or College Degree. Alice married the late William Joseph Hemsley on October 2, 1937 in Newburg, MD (Shiloh); they had four beautiful children: William Edward, Odessa Marva, James Robert (Ann), Carlillie Marie; and a grandson William Edward Jr. whom they raised as a son. Alice started her Christian Journey at a very early age. She was a devoted and faithful member of Shiloh Community United Methodist Church in Newburg, MD. Alice attended the "old" Shiloh United Methodist Church and watched the transformation of the OLD to the NEW, the old building to the new building the old name to the new name, which is currently "Shiloh Community United Methodist Church". Alice was a very active member at Shiloh. Over the years, she served on many committees such as: The Senior Choir/Sanctuary Unity Choir, Communion Stewardess, The Pastor Parish Relations, The United Methodist Women (president), The Trustee Board, Sexton and was head of the Food Committee which sold dinners every Friday. She was also a member of the Women's Aglow Ministry. Alice worked various domestic jobs early in life. She was later employed at the Bel Alton Motel, Earl's Truck Stop and La Plata Diner as the Head Cook, where she mastered her Rice Pudding, Macaroni and Cheese, Potato Salad and her Famous Bread Pudding. Before her illness, she loved bringing a smile to everyone's face by feeding them. Alice enjoyed singing, cooking, talking on the phone and going to yard sales every Saturday. She was known to have three deep freezers, two refrigerators and a closet full of canned and boxed food. It was nothing for the family to go grocery shopping at her house. You would come out with five bags of groceries easily. Alice's Caregivers were: Odessa, Niecie, Sean, Carlillie and Chantice. A special thanks to her Home Health Care Nurses: Debbie, Sylvia and Amber. Alice leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Odessa Marva, James Robert and his wife Ann, Carllillie Marie; a grandson William Edward Jr. whom they raised, a daughter-in-law, Victoria Cooper and her husband Theodore, 23 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 22 great great-grandchildren a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services will be held at Shiloh Community United Methodist Church, 12695 Shiloh Church Road, Newburg, MD 20664 on Saturday, April 2, 2011, Viewing: 9:00am / Funeral: 11:00am.
