On March 5, 2011, Frances Jameson Gam of Charlotte Hall, MD, a member of the "Greatest Generation," left this world, succumbing to a lengthy struggle with leukemia. Born on October 16, 1918 in Bryantown, MD, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Catherine Jameson.
Mrs. Gam was an Administrative Accountant for the Department of the Army, beginning her career in 1935 and retiring in 1970 after 35 years of service. Frances was preceded in death by her husband "John," who passed away in 1977. Best described as a truly strong willed person who approached every challenge, "with the good Lord's help," Frances was always the one her family could rely on, no matter the reason or the hour of the night. Her skill for baking the world's best gingerbread houses cannot be duplicated because Frances' secret ingredient was her love for those she made these special items for. Even after becoming ill, Frances insisted on remaining independent. Things such as push mowing her lawn after reaching her late eighties and her love of gardening are just examples of her belief in hard work. Her later years were spent caring for and visiting with her older sister Clara until Clara's death in 2007. Mrs. Gam's pride and joy were her two great-nephews, Michael F. McGuigan of Waldorf and John C. McGuigan of Charlotte Hall. Their lives and family were in her words, "My life's blessing." Her love, strength and influence will be remembered and truly missed by all. A grave side service will be conducted on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11am at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, 13715 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, MD 20617. Arrangements provided by Raymond Funeral Service. |
