Roy Richard Varnell, Sr., 78, of La Plata, MD, died February 13, 2011, at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.

Mr. Varnell was the Owner/Operator of Camp Springs Radiator Service for over 33 years and a Veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean conflict. He loved horse racing, slot machines, fishing, golfing, and taking care of his dog and cat. He was an avid Redskins and Orioles fan. He was very kind-hearted, always with his wife, family, and grandchildren.

Born December 19, 1932, in Maryland Park, MD, he was the son of the late Rozier Varnell and the late Eves Estele Andre Varnell.

Predeceased by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Margaret Ida Varnell; three late brothers and three late sisters.

Survived by four sons, Roy "Rick" Varnell, Jr., of La Plata, MD; Rocky (Bonnie) Varnell of FL; Rodey (Cathi) Varnell of La Plata, MD; and Ronny Varnell of La Plata, MD; six grandchildren, Brandy, Crystal, Victoria, Noah, Jonah, and Madison; and six great-grandchildren, Brittany, Alyssa, Bethany, Cheyenne, Ryan, and Nevaeh.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 17, 2011, from 9AM until service time at 11AM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646.

Rev. Mark Roberson will officiate.

Interment will take place at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.

Pallbearers will be his sons.

Honorary Pallbearers will be two grandsons and the United States Army Honor Guard.
