David Marvin Flickinger, 68, of Raleigh, NC, longtime resident of Mechanicsville MD, passed away on December 28, 2010 at Duke University Hospital.
Born December, 14, 1942 in Latrobe, PA, he was the son of the late David Earl and Mary Flickinger, of Apollo, PA. He is survived by his beloved wife, June Alice Flickinger; sister Bonnie Stanley of Oil City, PA; daughters Cindy Hoppensack and her husband Hans of Mechanicsville, Md; Cheryl Hill and her husband Kevin of Wake Forest, NC; son, David "Scott" Flickinger and his girlfriend Melissa Rose of Henderson, NC; granddaughters, Christina Hall, Amanda Hoppensack, Victoria Hill, Olivia Hill and Samantha Rose; grandsons Richard "Ryan Hall, Trevor Hill, Connor Hill, Caleb Rose; and niece Beth Fye. David was an avid Nascar fan "# 3" and football fan. He collected model cars and enjoyed wood crafts and gardening. He loved camping and fishing especially in the Shenandoah Mountains of Virgina. He played high school football and basketball. He coached Pigskin football and served as President of the St. Mary's County Pigskin league in the early 1980s. Prior to retirement he was a Meat Department Manager at Safeway, Food lion and McKay's grocery stores. A Life Celebration will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 PM with a memorial service at 3:00 PM on Saturday January 15Th at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD.
