Evangeline Herring Benton of La Plata, Maryland, died on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Genesis La Plata Center in La Plata, MD. She was 90 years old.

Born on March 4, 1920 in Mount Olive, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Fannie Herring and the late Joseph Herring.

Mrs. Benton was a sales representative for 25 years at Woodward and Lothrop in Washington, DC. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She lived her life for her family, loved reading and traveling out of state. Mrs. Benton was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rufus Allen Benton; her son Ray Benton; her daughter Barbara Carter; her sisters Maude Durham, Wardella Herring, Ann Wallace, and Geneva Cogdell.

She is survived by her daughters Cassandra Tolson and Carole Matthews; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

Visitation on Thursday, December 16, 2010 from 10AM to 11:30AM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Avenue La Plata, MD.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at the Raymond Funeral Service Chapel beginning at 11:30AM with the Reverend Terry L. Wilson officiating.

Interment to follow at the Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD. Pallbearers are Tony Tolson, David Tolson, Jacque Hightower, Ian Matthews, Alex Matthews and David Tolson II.
