CHASE, JAMES OLIVER (AGE 62) OF NEWBURG, MARYLAND
On December 5, 2010, after a brief illness, James Oliver Chase, better known as Joc, departed this life for one eternal at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Joc was born January 29, 1948 to Elizabeth Galloway. He was raised by his uncle and aunt, the late William and the late Laurel Smallwood. In 1966, he graduated from La Plata High School. He was employed by the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia and after 25 years of dedicated service he retired. Joc was married to Dorothy Jenkins in 1986. Although no children were born to this union, together they had two adorable pets named, Princess and Butter Scotch. Joc was a loveable and caring husband and always had a warm smile and a welcoming laugh for everyone he met. Joc was especially passionate about Sport and Race Cars. He and Dorothy loved to attend Van Shows and Camping Trips. His presence will be sadly missed. In addition to his uncle, William and aunt, Laurel, he was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Brown. Left to cherish many memories are his wife, Dorothy Chase, mother, Elizabeth Galloway; step-father, John Galloway; brothers, Thomas Brown, Francis Brown, Larry Brown, John Barnes Jr., and Francis Barnes Sr.; sisters, Gloria Barnes Riley, Belinda Hawkins, Elsie Mitchell and Sandra Phillips; sisters-in-law, Leona Brown, Carolyn Brown, Gail and Vivian Butler, Donnie Butler, Belinda Butler, and Florence Butler, brothers-in-law; Glenn Hawkins, Donald Phillips, Howard Butler, Daniel Butler and James Butler; aunt, Marion Barbour; devoted friends; Hillery Thomas, Lloyd Prout, Mark Butler, Kenneth Simms, James Chisley, Donald Turner, Kerry Smith, Thomas Sweetney and Tommy Burgess and a host of other relatives and friends. His viewing will be held on Friday, December 10th, 5pm until time of services 7pm in the chapel of THORNTON FUNERAL HOME, PA, 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD.
