LeMoine Alroy Wilkerson, Jr., of Waldorf, MD, died October 18, 2010 at home.

Born March 3, 1921 in Waldorf, he was the son of the late LeMoine Alroy Wilkerson, Sr. and the late Eva Arlene Canter Wilkerson.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, receiving Pacific Theater, American Theater, and Philippine Liberation Ribbons and a Victory Medal before his Honorable Discharge.

He grew up on the family farm on Route 228 in Waldorf and became accustomed to hard work at a young age. Prior to serving his country during the War, he was employed at the U.S. Naval Gun Factory in Washington, D.C. from 1940 to 1944, as a machinist. Upon discharged from the Navy, he returned to work as a civil servant, working as a machinist and tool maker at the U.S. Naval Air Test Center in Lexington Park, Maryland and for the U.S. Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, Maryland, retiring in 1982 after 42 years of service. Throughout his years of government service, he also worked long hard hours to maintain the family farm.

His great love was raising and training beagles for rabbit hunting each Fall. He enjoyed wonderful crisp mornings hunting the fields and woods of Southern Maryland with many friends through the years. In recent years, he enjoyed hunting every Saturday with his three sons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Laura Jane Wilkerson; brother Larry Bell Wilkerson; and sister, Kathleen W. Weaver.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Wilkerson Cross; sons, Larry Allen Wilkerson and his wife Mary Darlene, Paul Wayne Wilkerson, Sr. and his wife Meryle Page, and Randol LeMoine Wilkerson and his wife Carla Lorraine; daughters Donna Lee Coburn and her husband William, and Patricia Lynn Gribble; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
