William Adrian Bridgett "Billy", 74 of Charlotte Hall, Md., died at home on Sept. 11, 2010.
Born Oct. 24, 1935 in Leonardtown, Md., he was the son of the late Adrian Norwood Bridgett and Clara Estelle Ching Bridgett. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Norris. Billy grew up in Hughesville, Md., and graduated from La Plata High School. He joined the United States Air Force and served for 8 years, then returned home to become manager and owner of the family business, South End Garage, a farm equipment dealership. Billy had joined the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Dept. before he entered the military service and when he returned he served his community, as a volunteer, for 19 years. His son and grandsons have followed in his footsteps as volunteers and career firefighters. Billy played an active part in the formation of the Hughesville Rescue Squad in 1968. Among his many contributions to the HVFD & RS, he taught the Red Cross First Aid classes to the new members until the Emergency Medical Tech program began. He was a member of the American Legion Post 238, holding many offices including Commander of the post. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge 495. Billy loved to play fast pitch softball in his earlier days and later he especially enjoyed watching his son and grandsons play ball. Billy also looked forward to his Wednesday night poker games with his entire family He is survived by his long-time companion Teri Reilly of Charlotte Hall, Md. His son, William R. Bridgett "Bill" and his wife Traci of Mechanicsville, Md. Daughters, Dara Lynne Bryant and husband Jeff of La Plata, Md.; and Dana A. Jones and husband Tim of Mechanicsville, Md.; Darlene Bridgett of Biloxi, Miss., and William A. Bridgett of Ocean Springs, Miss.; Grandchildren Bruce and Michael Bridgett; Jeffrey, Kyle and Lexy Bryant; Amber Jones; and Dustin Bridgett. Sisters, Jean Dyson and husband Ken of Hughesville, Md. And Diane Smith and husband Leon of Strasburg, Va. A Life Celebration will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD where Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 17, 2010. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD. Arrangements provided by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A.
