Jeremy Scott Shafer, 33, of Mechanicsville, MD, died on August 19, 2010 at his residence.

Born on July 18, 1977 in Marysville, Ohio, Scott was raised in Mt. Gilead, Ohio. He graduated from Highland High School in Marengo, Ohio in 1995. Scott entered the U.S. Marine Corps in May of 1995 and served until May 1999. He was a U.S. Capitol Police Officer from 2001 serving on the K-9 unit for seven years. Scott was a member of the FOP DC Lodge #1 and served on the Northern Soccer League Board. Scott was a loving husband and father, who enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed coaching both of his children in soccer for many years. He also enjoyed watching football, (Cleveland Browns) and Ice Hockey (Capitols).

Survived by his wife, Kelly L. Shafer, children, Kayla Nicole and Ryan Scott Shafer, father and mother-in-law, Mike and JoAnn Boswell, brother and sister-in-law Mike and Kelli Boswell, and niece Lucy Boswell all of Mechanicsville, MD, and grandparents, Dick and Brenda Dupler of Manchester, TN.

A Life Celebration will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 2-5 p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. A Chapel Service will be held Monday, August 30, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.

In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to Community Bank of Tri County, Trust Fund for Kayla and Ryan Shafer.
