He worked for many years as an estimator for Taylor Electric Company in Waldorf, MD. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He retired in 1991 as a Parks Inspector for the Department of the Parks and Recreation, Conservation Department for the state of Alabama.

Son of the late Frank Martin Simmons and the late Hertha Baker Simmons.

Predeceased by his parents; son, Robert M. Simmons.

Survived by his wife, Mary Ruth (Middleton) Simmons, four sons, David M. (Rosmund) Simmons of Tyler, Texas, Thomas (Joan) Simmons of Callaway, MD, Frank P. Simmons of Hollywood, MD, and John E. Simmons of Wildwood, Georgia; one daughter, Carol Ann Simmons of Harvest, Alabama; one brother, Richard (Marion) Simmons of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one sister, Ruth (Leo) Brassett of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Kay Simmons.

Visitation: Sunday, June 27, 2010 from 2-4PM and 6-8 PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel (5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646) with funeral service that evening at 7 PM. Clergy: Deacon Henry Middleton

Interment: Monday, June 28, 2010 at 11 AM at Maryland Veterans' Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.

Pallbearers: United States Army Honor Guard.
