Anne Jameson Weaver, educator, retired from the Charles County Board of Education, died on June 2, 2010, at home in La Plata. She was the daughter of Harold T. J. Skone and Mildred Steffens Skone.
Dr. Weaver served as teacher, principal, supervisor, and director of elementary education in Charles County for 30 years. She spent a short period teaching at the University of Maryland while she was pursuing her PhD in education. In these positions she endeavored to make the process of education that of nurturing, encouraging and challenging children, rejecting the antitheses, threatening and pressuring children. Anne Weaver graduated from high school at St. Mary's Female Seminary (now St. Mary's College of Maryland), received her undergraduate degree from Towson State University and her Master's Degree and Doctorate from the University of Maryland, College Park. She enjoyed traveling and did so widely in Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia, and often spent winters in Mexico. Some of her favorite memories were of ballooning over the Serengeti as well as France. Throughout her lifetime, she cultivated and arranged flowers and was recognized for ability to do so. She was passionate about playing bridge, which she did during college and in her retirement. She was a member of the American Civil Liberties Union and member and past president of the Charles County Garden Club and the Charles County Retired School Personnel Association. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, O. Bennett Jameson, II; by her second husband of 11 years, Dr. V. Phillips Weaver; and by her son, Frederick Bennett Jameson, who died of cancer at 47. Two grandsons, Daniel Bennett Jameson currently serving in the US Marine Corps, and Harold Bennett Jameson of Charles County survive her. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday June 8th 11am at the Christ Church La Plata, Md. Interment to follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery.
