Sonya Denise Jamieson, a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and an extremely dear friend, transitioned to eternal life on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland, a place she loved for it's quaint, small town atmosphere.

Born November 13, 1964, in Hampton, Virginia, Sonya arrived making everyone smile and loving her instantly, especially her parents, the late Wilbert McKinley Johnson and Mattie Johnson. She attended Hampton Public Schools and graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1983. Upon graduation, Sonya enrolled at Virginia State University, where she met her future husband and father of her two beautiful children. Sonya graduated cum laude from Virginia State University in 1988.

Upon graduation, she moved to Arlington, Virginia where she worked as a counselor for inmates incarcerated in Virginia prisons for several years. Sonya later moved to Maryland and married her college sweetheart, Henry Edward Jamieson, Jr. on April 6, 1991.

After marriage, Sonya followed her other passion and began teaching in the Charles County Public Schools. Sonya taught Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students for sixteen and a half years at several schools in Charles County before her retirement from Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School in 2008.

Upon retirement, Sonya continued to be an enthusiastic and comedic family member and friend, despite the pain she often had to endure. She was extremely funny and had a knack for remembering the most obscure humorous facts from her childhood, especially as they related to her beloved father.
