Jessie L. Pitcher Cornell, 91, of Nanjemoy, MD, formerly of Saratoga Springs, NY, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the home of her daughter.

Born June 30, 1918, in Hudson Falls, NY to the late Emma Baker Pitcher and the late Cornelius L. Pitcher. She was one of five children. Jessie attended Hudson Falls High School. She was employed by Van Raalte and Company in Saratoga.

She married Walter J. Cornell on February 14, 1942, in Saratoga. During their years together they traveled to Hawaii, Las Vegas, California, Canada and Florida. From this union three children were born.

Jessie enjoyed bowling, golf, playing cards, and gardening. She loved decorating for all holidays and had a special place in her heart for Christmas.

In November of 2008, Jessie moved to Maryland where she made a number of friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Jessie was also preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Ryther and Shirley Bromley, two brothers, Elgin L. Pticher and Howard Pitcher and a grandson, Jay R. Cornell in 1990.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Richard and Lura Cornell of NH; daughter and son-in-law, Donna M. And Cary Martin of CA and Paula Scribner Phelps and husband James (Buddy) Phelps, Jr. of MD; six grandchildren, Drew Cornell, Kami Martin, Cary K. Martin, Brian C. Scribner, Kevin R. Scribner and Dennis P. Scribner, 11 great-grandchildren.

She maintained special relationships with her former daughter-in-law, Evelyn Cornell of NY as well as friends and relatives in both NY and MD.

Family suggests memorial contributions to Juvenile Diabetes, Cancer Society or the Charles County Humane Society.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 19, 2010, from 2:00 to 4:00PM and 6:00 to 8:00PM with prayers at 7:00PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646.

Funeral Service and Interment to be held in Saratoga Springs, NY at a later date.
