Thomas (Tom) Scherer Sr., 66, of Bryans Rd, MD died on May 5, 2010. Tom passed away due to heart failure while in the company of his loving wife of 41 years, Janice L. Scherer (Jan) in Clinton, MD.

Born on September 20, 1943 in Montrose, NY, he was the son of the late John and Claire Scherer. Tom enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 19 and served his country for 21 yrs as a Radioman. Tom retired with an Honorable Discharge in 1983. Tom was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous in both Charles and Prince Georges County. He proudly celebrated his 16th year of sobriety in March, 2010 surrounded by family and friends. His enjoyments were fishing, reading, model trains, his computer, caring for his pets and family, and celebrating the holidays – especially Halloween.

He is survived by his wife Janice L Scherer (Jan), sons Thomas, Jr. and wife, Claire, of Millersburg, PA, Arthur and wife, Terra, of Indian Head, MD, and Adam and wife, Terri, of Lexington Park, MD, six Grandchildren – Ashley, Donovan, Arthur, Jr., Anastazia, Stephanie, and Madelyn. He is also survived by siblings Barbara of Santa Rosa, CA, and brothers Bert and James of NY. Tom was the youngest of 7 children and is predeceased by his brothers John, Jr., Peter, and Patrick. Tom also leaves behind his loving companions, his dog, Precious, and his cat, Flash, who watched over him very much.

Family will receive friends to Celebrate Tom's life on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 from 10am – 12pm with a Memorial Service with Military Honors at noon at Williams Funeral Home, 4270 Hawthorne Rd, Indian Head, MD with Deacon John Barnes officiating.
