Mr. Black was a Retired Captain (30 years) with the United States Coast Guard. He lived in Charles County for over 15 years with homes in Bryantown, La Plata, and currently White Plains. He graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1952 where he was the Captain of the first undefeated football team. He received his wings as a Naval Aviator in 1955 and retired as Captain from the United States Coast Guard after 30 years of service with numerous assignments, including Commanding Officer, United States Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point High.

Son of the late Norbert V. Black and the late Helen M. Noles Black.

Predeceased by his parents and sister, Carolyn Ash of Bradford, PA.

Survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane I. Beebe Black; sons, Jeffrey N. (Jan) Black of La Plata, MD, Bruce W. (Gail) Black of Waldorf, MD, and Gregory J. (Denise) Black of Chesapeake, VA; daughter, Melissa J. (Tom) Leitner of White Plains, MD. Also survived by 5 grandchildren.

Interment: Arlington National Cemetery on August 4, 2010 at 11 AM.

Pallbearers: United States Coast Guard Honor Guard.
