Thelma Virginia Haynes, age 85, of Sunderland, MD died April 12, 2010 at her residence. She was born September 28, 1924 in Washington, D.C. to Raymond Charles and Eva Pauline (Werking) Lewis and received her education in Washington D.C. schools. She was a graduate of Eastern High School, class of February 1940.

Thelma was employed as a secretary for the I.R.S. until 1946 when she married Jack Edward Haynes and they resided in Landover Hills where Thelma became very involved in her children's activities. She was a team mother for youth baseball, a room mother for the elementary school as well as a volunteer for the Brownie and Girl Scott Troops. Thelma never missed an event that one of their children was involved in, and after her children were grown she attended many of her grandchildren's events.

She also enjoyed duckpin bowling and was an involved in league bowling. Thelma also loved to dance and competed in many contests in her younger years with her cousin. She moved with her family to Calvert County in 1976. Mr. Haynes died in 1999.

Surviving are her five children, Barbara Ann Guy and her husband James of Huntingtown, MD, Timothy Edward Haynes of Chesterfield, VA, Stephen Paul Haynes and his wife Teresa of Huntingtown, R. Michael Haynes and his wife Sue of Stafford, VA and Mary Theresa Bowen and her husband Michael of Sunderland, MD. Thelma is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a brother William Lewis and his wife Mary of Selby, DE.
