Phyllis Joy Egland was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 24, 1944 to the late Joseph and the late Emma Egland. Phyllis departed this life March 29, 2010 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
She attended Central High School and graduated from East Tech High School in Omaha, Nebraska. Phyllis had 30 years of Federal service and retired in 2001 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She was a member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church. Phyllis was a dedicated member of the Young Adult Choir and served as the tenor section leader for some time. She loved to read and had a passion for music. She also was a natural comedian, making everyone around her laugh with her funny anecdotes. Phyllis leaves to mourn her daughter Kiani Egland, granddaughter Sydnei Huff, sister, Jo Ann Savage, brother in-law, Raleigh Savage, four nieces, Marsha, Sheila, Cheryl, Sharon, three nephews Brian, Bradley, Mark, and a host of relatives and many friends. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 6th, 10:00am until Home going services 11:00am, Ebenezer AME Church, 7707 Allentown Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744.
