George Richard Ameye, 73, of Lexington Park, MD died January 2, 2007 in Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC.

Born January 5, 1933 in West Warren, MA, he was the son of the late Edmund Ameye

George was a retired chief petty officer of the US Navy serving 23 years. His various tours of duty included assignments ranging from airship crewmember to aircraft mechanic. After his retirement, he continued to work for the Navy for an additional 20 years as a civilian at St Inigoes, fabricating and installing prototype systems.

George's interests included fishing, working on cars, gambling and reading westerns. He was a past member of the Optimists and the Arks & Doves, a square dancing group. George was blessed with a full life, and was known for taking every opportunity to shoot the breeze and joke around with friends and any one else he met.

He is survived by his two children, Cathy Tobin of Hanahan, SC and Michael Richard Ameye of Woodstock, GA, three sisters, Helen Martin and Charlotte Corwin, both of Lakehurst, NJ, and Florence Kochuyt of Iowa, and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 17, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home Chapel, Leonardtown, MD, with a Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be private.
