Ellen Sturcey Carroll, 64, of La Plata, MD died March 18, 2010 at Civista Medical Center, La Plata, MD.
Born September 7, 1945 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Julia Presby Sturcey and the late William Sturcey of New York City. As a child, Ellen traveled the world with her parents and her sister, Linda. She lived in many places including New York City, Bighampton, NY, The Philippines, Okinawa, Japan, Tokyo, Mount Vernon, VA, and Southern Maryland. Ellen graduated from Groveton High School in Alexandria, VA and attended the University of Tennessee. Ellen was a well known licensed Realtor in Maryland for over 25 years. She was also a member of many organizations including Zonta International, The Southern Maryland Woman's League, various book clubs, and The Divine Wine Divas. Ellen loved nothing more than to entertain her friends and family and enjoyed most of her free time boating with her husband, Bob on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and Solomons Island. She was a gourmet cook and very much enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family and her many friends. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, John Robert Carroll whom she married on March 19, 1965; daughters, Shannon Murphy, Susan E. Carroll, Julianne R. Posey, and Jane M. Staples; sons-in-law, Stephen T. Staples, Thomas H. Posey, Jr.; grandchildren, Jonathan Gunnar Staples, Kara A. Rodenhizer, Jonathan Rodenhizer, Thomas Rodenhizer, Blair E. Posey, Thomas H. Posey, III; and sister, Linda Sturcey Keiser of La Plata, MD. Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jason Robert Carroll and her brother-in-law, Robert W. Keiser. Visitation and prayers were held on Tuesday, Mach 23, 2010 from 5-8pm at Raymond Funeral Chapel in La Plata, MD. The Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 11am at Raymond Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD. Rev. Mark Roberson will officiate. A luncheon will be held afterwards at the home of Jane and Stephen Staples in Welcome, MD. Pallbearers will be Stephen T. Staples, Thomas H. Posey, Jr., Jonathan Gunnar Staples, Omar Kassem, Jonathan Rodenhizer, Thomas Rodenhizer, Clifford Barnes and Wesley Harris. Honorary Pallbearers will be Albert Bartee, Robert DeMar, David DeMar, Jack Endsley, Steven Lowe and Pete Hamelman. Arrangements provided by Raymond Funeral Service. |
