Wilmot (Buddy) Gerard McDonald, Jr., 85, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, February 28, 2010 after a long illness. He had resided at the Charlotte Hall Veteran's Home in Charlotte Hall, Maryland for the past three years.
Mr. McDonald was born August 10, 1924, at home, in Richmond, Virginia to Wilmot and Bernice McDonald. He attended school in Richmond and later served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he met and married Kathleen Virginia Hall also of Richmond in 1946. They moved to Washington, D.C. in 1950, where he attended classes to become a photographer. He became a salesman instead, for several well known photograph studios, setting up appointments for photos to be taken in the home. Mr. McDonald was an avid football fan, always supporting his favorite team, the Washington Redskins. He was also a big fan of many types of music. Most of his friends never knew that after his discharge from the military, he had contemplated a career in show business. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen V. McDonald; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara A. and Donald L. Wright of Rhoadesville, VA; a stepsister, Alease Burton of Rowlett, TX; two granddaughters, Donna J. and her husband, Craig Belcher of Mechanicsville, MD, and Tracie L. and her husband, Billy Garner of Rhoadesville, VA; one great granddaughter, Desiree M. Wright of Rhoadesville; two nieces, Janet Phiffer and Sonia Brown and two nephews, Butch Armstrong, Jr. and Tom Ford. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice McDonald; father and stepmother, Wilmot G. and Virgie McDonald; and two sisters, Norma Ford and Marjorie Blossom. Visitation will be held at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall MD from 11:00am - 12:00 pm on Thursday, March 4, 2010. A memorial service will follow, beginning at 12:00. Interment will be held at Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria, VA at 2:00 pm.
