Irving Russell Becker, 90, of Waldorf, MD, died February 18, 2010, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata, MD.

Mr. Becker was the assistant director of Data Processing with the Metro Area Transit Authority for 34 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, Big Red One, where he served as a Tech Sgt. during World War II and was awarded three Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars for bravery. He was with the first wave at the landing at Omaha Beach and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Born September 3, 1919, in Atlantic City, NJ, he was the son of the late Adolph Becker and the late Florence M. Fredericks Becker.

Predeceased by his parents; son, Thomas E. Becker; and son-in-law, Thomas Burroughs.

Survived by sons, John Becker of Bowie, MD; James Becker of Church Hill, MD; daughters, Barbara Mazor Burroughs of Waldorf, MD; Sharon and her husband Romeo Paternoster of Bowie, MD; Janet and her husband Kirk Matlick of Spring Hill, FL; Joanne Reid of Church Hill, MD; daughter-in-law, Sandy Becker; two sisters-in-law, Angela Preston and Georgia Becker; grandfather of Thomas and Christopher Mazor, Samantha and Stephanie Matlick, Aaron and Meghan Paternoster. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation and funeral service will be private.

Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD.
