Virginia Annie Laura Gloden Cronk, 93, died February 14, 2010, three months shy of her 94th birthday.
Ms. Cronk was a lifelong Charles County resident, born in Pisgah on May 13, 1916, the second daughter of George Arthur Gloden and Grace Leland Gloden. In her early years, she attended Glymont School and later Lackey. On September 19, 1936, she married Carlin McLeod Cronk, who died July 23, 1986, weeks prior to their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they had one daughter, Joan Cronk Dent, and resided in Indian Head. Virginia devoted her time to her family, her brothers and sisters, and their children. She was an active member of the Charles County Homemakers, the 60 Club Senior Center in Indian Head and an avid bowler with the leagues in Indian Head. Virginia was a gifted gardener, crafter and shared her crocheting talents and country cooking skills with many. She also worked at the Spoon Factory the then Naval Powder Factory (now NSWC Indian Head Division) and as a food service worker for the Board of Education. Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Carlin; her parents, George and Grace Gloden; her stepfather, Harry Wedding; her brothers, George and Edward Gloden, William Gloden Boswell, and Richard Wedding; her sisters Rosemary Elizabeth Johnson, Mabel Johnson and Audrey Trigger. She is survived by her daughter, Joan and her husband Jim. Two granddaughters, Linda Dent Mitchell and her husband Stephen Mitchell, and Holley Zippi and her husband David Zippi; great-grandchildren Jillian Davis and husband Michael, Darrick Brown, Michael Zippi, Andrew Zippi, and Michael Mitchell. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 17, from 3-7 p.m. at Arehart Echols Funeral Home. Service of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, February 18 at 1 pm at the La Plata United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Jones officiating. Interment is immediately following at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf. Pallbearers are Stephen Mitchell, David Zippi, Darrick Brown, Michael Mitchell, Dudley Hagy and James Beavers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Charles County or Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Arrangements provided by Arehart Echols Funeral Home. |
