Robert Lee "Bob" Ditmars, Sr., 68, of Owings, MD died February 10, 2010 at his residence in Owings, MD. He was born April 13, 1941 in Washington, D.C. to Myron L. and Helen Campbell Ditmars.
He was raised in Morningside, MD. He attended public school in Prince George's County, and graduated from Suitland High School, class of 1959. He began working for the Government Printing Office (G.P.O.) as a printer until enlisting in the U.S. Army on July 1, 1963. He served in the Army Signal Corps until being honorably discharged June 30, 1966 as a SP4. Upon being discharged from the military he returned to work at the G.P.O. where he was employed until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Printers' Local Union 285 of the Graphic Communications Conference/International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Bob moved from District Heights, MD to Owings in 1975, where he lived until the present time. He enjoyed fishing, weight lifting, cooking and watching television. Bob is survived by four children, Robert Lee Ditmars, Jr. (Michelle) of Cape Coral, FL, Charles Lee Ditmars (Nancy) of Owings, April Lynn Welch (Bill) of Owings and David Wayne Ditmars of Cape Coral, FL. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kali and Zachary Ditmars and Jordan and Emma Welch, and brothers Frank Ditmars (Georgia) of Deale and Mike Ditmars of Annapolis, MD.
