James Henry "Jim" Kehoe, Jr., 91, of The Willows, Chesapeake Beach, MD died January 17, 2010 at the Burnett Calvert Hospice House in Prince Frederick, MD. Jim was born June 3, 1918 in Bel Air, Hartford County, MD to James H. and Ethel Mae Davis Kehoe.

He was raised in Bel Air, graduated from Bel Air High School, and attended the University of Maryland where he was undefeated in dual meet competition as a track athlete setting Terrapin school records in the two mile and half mile races. He graduated from Maryland in 1940, and in 1942, following a brief stint as a high school teacher and coach, began his military service in the US Army during WWII.

He married Barbara Riggs England on May 22, 1942. After eighteen months of service in the South Pacific where he earned five service medals and a bronze star, Jim returned to his alma mater where he guided the Maryland track program to 48 Southern Conference and ACC titles. His teams captured all but one of the ACC championships during his 16 years in the league. During his 39 years at Maryland, Jim competed as a sprinter and coach, and served as Athletic Director from 1969 until retiring in 1978, a tenure that produced 40 Atlantic Coast Conference championships.

A former resident of Hyattsville, MD, Jim had summered in Chesapeake since 1955, and resided there with his wife Barbara since 1973. A Hall of Fame athlete, coach and athletic director many times over, Jim was a faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Huntingtown, MD.

Mr. Kehoe is survived by his beloved wife Barbara Riggs England Kehoe of the home, and four loving children, Courtney A. Thomas and husband James of Broomfield, CO, James H. Kehoe III and wife Cathy of Middletown, MD, Barbara Kehoe of Colorado Springs, CO and Mary Lou Lane and husband Gothard of Grand Lake, CO. He is the grandfather of Ruth Wilson of Joshua Tree, CA, Emily Rushing and husband Nathan of Columbia, MD, Bradley Kehoe of Peoria, IL and Rex Kehoe of Melbourne, Australia. He is the brother of Sterling Kehoe and wife Betty of Oakland, MD, Charles "Lindy" Kehoe of Columbia, VA and Genevieve Snodgrass of Havre de Grace, MD.

Private funeral services for Mr. Kehoe will be held for members of his family, with private interment at Emmanuel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
