Patricia Anne "Pat" Norris, 84, of Leonardtown, MD and formerly of Washington, DC died peacefully at home on Jan. 11, 2010. Born April 4, 1925, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Christopher Columbus and Elizabeth Babcock Mertz.
She was the loving wife of the late J. Harry Norris, Jr. whom she married in Wilmington, NC in 1944 and who preceded her in death on February 11, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her brother Christopher and her son Francis Tyler. She is survived by her children, J. Harry Norris, III,(Jan), James Randolph Norris,(Louise), David Christopher Norris,(Vicki), all of Leonardtown, MD, Daniel Robert Norris of California, MD and Carol Anne Bean (Kenny) of Great Mills, MD as well as 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Pat moved to St. Mary's County in 1938 where she attended St. Mary's Academy and met her future husband. She graduated Class of 1942. She was active in the family business Thrift Oil Co., then at Burch Oil Co. when the business was sold. Following her retirement she volunteered in the St. Mary's Hospital Gift Shop. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 15, 2010 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD where prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 10:00 AM in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD with Fr. John Dakes officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be J. Harry Norris IV, Jason Bean, Christopher Norris, Stephen Norris, Dillon Norris, Eric Donnelly, William A. Loveless and Jason Fean. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Greenwell, Walter Blair, Neil Myers, Joey Tennison, Rodney Madewell and J.C. Vallandingham. Contributions may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation of Southern Maryland, 21815 Three Notch Road, Lexington Park, MD 20653, and/or the Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
