Joseph F. "Joe" Boswell 79 of LaPlata, Md. died on Wednesday January 6, 2010 at Civista Medical Center in LaPlata, Md. after 32 years of heart disease.

Born on February 22, 1930 in Virginia he was the adopted son of the late Clark Marion Boswell and Ruby Smith Boswell. He grew up in Waldorf and assisted his parents who were the owners/ Operators/ manager of Spring Lake Hotel, which was located in Waldorf for many years.

He served in the United States Marine Corps.

He attended Leonard Hall Naval Academy in Leonardtown, Md., Charlotte Hall Military Academy and also attended Gwyn Park High School in Brandywine, Md.

He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Union College in Barbourville Kentucky and received his Master Degree in Education from Frostburg State College in Western Maryland.

He began his teaching career at Dixie Heights High School in Erlanger Kentucky from 1957-1958 than moved to LaPlata with his wife and family teaching at Surratsville Junior High School, Clinton, Md. from 1958-1984. He retired in 1984 from the Charles County Board of Education after 27 years teaching.

He was a member of the LaPlata United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

He was an active member of the Family Campers and RVer; formally know at the National Campers and Hikers Association participating in various National, Regional, Retiree, State and Tri-County camping events. He and his wife traveled with this organization for many years all over the United States and Canada.

He was also a member of the Charles County Retired Teachers Association of Southern Marylanders, Square Dance Group and the Mended Heart Association of the National Capital Area.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Robin Tilton Boswell, son Joseph Lynn Boswell, daughter Katherine Denise (Boswell) Nicol, and her husband David of St. Petersburg Florida, son Clark Marion Boswell of LaPlata and a daughter Melissa Ann (Boswell) Hayes of Humble Texas, two grandchildren Kyle Shelly Nicol, and April Marie Hayes. A brother Joseph Snyder and his wife wife Nina of Carson City Nevada. Predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Georgette Flanagan of Baltimore, Md.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday January 20, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm with a Memorial Service at 7pm at the La Plata United Methodist Church. Interment to follow on Thursday January 21, 2010 11am at the Arlington National Cemetery.
