Christene Savoy, after a period of illness, departed this earthly life of grace on Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, Maryland. She was born on February 21, 1939, to the late Laura E. Ross Warren and the late Yellie Y. Warren of Charles County, Maryland. She was the youngest of thirteen children.

She married the late Charles L. Kelton, to which four children were born: Charlotte, Cynthia, Corenthia "Cecelia," and Cornelius. She later married Russell Savoy, Sr., to that union five children were born: Carl "Wayne" Sr., Russell "Snuke" (1990), Donnell, Syvelle, and Louise. Christene loved and was devoted to her own and to any child who crossed her path.

Christene resided in Indian Head and La Plata, Maryland, for a number of years before she relocated to Waldorf. She was a founding member of the Woodland Village Baptist Church in Indian Head, Maryland. She later joined Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Marbury, Maryland. In service to God, she humbly served in various church ministries.

Christene received her education through Charles County Public Schools and graduated from Bel Alton High School in 1957. She continued her academic studies at the College of Southern Maryland (formerly known as the Charles County Community College). After 30 years of service as a social worker, she retired from Charles County's Department of Social Services.

Christene leaves to cherish her memory a husband, Russell Savoy, Sr.; eight children, Charlotte Kelton, Cynthia Simms, Corenthia "Cecelia" Kelton, Cornelius Kelton, Carl "Wayne" Savoy Sr., Donnell Savoy, Syvelle Savoy, and Louise Harley; one son-in-law, Victor Harley; two daughters-in-law, Tetra and Heidi Savoy; 14 grand-children; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Yancey and Nathaniel Warren; two sisters, Madeline Johnson and Rachel Wills; three brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and one goddaughter, Naté Barbour; and a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Viewing will be held on Friday, January 1, 2010, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, January 2, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland. Services will be held Saturday, January 2, 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 5560 Pleasant Grove Road, Marbury, Maryland. Interment Church Cemetery.
