God is a good God, a very, very good God. He gave us the peace, love and joy of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, great-great aunt, friend and matriarch for 97 years.

Janie Cecelia Curtis was born on December 1, 1912 in Charlotte Hall, Maryland to the late Elizabeth Mankins-Briscoe and the late Robert Briscoe. Janie was the last of eleven children.

She married the late Joseph Bernard Curtis on May 17, 1930. From this union, they had three children, Joseph Bernard Curtis, Jr., Mary Virginia "Nanna" Goldring, and Bertha "Cecelia" Thompson. In addition, she also loved and raised her niece, Mary Blanche "Smootie" Stewart, nephew James "Pottie" Briscoe, and great-grandson Marcus Brown.

In addition to her parents, sisters and brothers, Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph B. Curtis, Sr., daughters Mary Virginia and Bertha Cecelia, niece, Mary Blanche Stewart, nephew, James "Pottie" Briscoe, son-in-law, William J. Goldring, Sr., granddaughter, Alice Curtis, great-grandsons, Kalon Goldring and Duane Gaskins, and great-granddaughter, Tiakeisha "Tee" Thompson.

Janie loved playing cards, going to baseball games, family gatherings, being around friends and cooking. Anyone of her family and friends could always come by her home and set down to a hearty breakfast, lunch, or dinner and enjoy the camaraderie of someone who knew everyone and the entire goings on in the neighborhood. She was loved and respected by all.

Janie leaves to cherish her, one son, Joseph B. Curtis, Jr. and his wife Agnes, twenty-four grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren, thirty-six great-great grandchildren, one god child, and host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
