Kathy Lynn Vantran of Waldorf, MD, formerly of Arnold, MD, died after a two year battle with cancer on Monday, December 21, 2009, at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, MD. She was 50 years old.

Born on November 10, 1959, in Kingston, New York, she is survived by her partner of 29 years, Lynne E. Vantran; her parents, Elizabeth T. and William A. Vantran of New Berlin, NY; sisters, Cynthia Sholly and her husband Dennis of Newmanstown, PA; Lori Grace and her husband Thomas of West Edmeston, NY; Melissa Gregory and her husband Kevin of Delanson, NY; brother Timothy Vantran and his wife Alicia of Springfield, VA; also survived by six nieces, nine nephews, many other relatives and friends.

Kathy served in the U. S. Army from 1979 to 1983 and was Honorably Discharged after serving in the Army Reserves until 1992. She worked for the Department of Defense for twenty five years; last serving as a Web Content Manager. In her successful career, Kath also served as the editor of the Fort Meade newspaper, Soundoff!, and was recipient of the Department of Defense Thomas Jefferson Award for Journalism Excellence, the Fort Meade Commander's Certificate of Highest Recognition, and the Federal Executive Board Outstanding Supervisor Award for Excellence in Federal Career.
