Allan Lee Sweeney, 78, of Charlotte Hall, formerly of Cobb Island, Maryland, died on December 15, 2009, at the D.C. Veterans Administration Hospital. Allan, a.k.a.: "Bubba", "Ferdy", "Hotrod", or "Cash" was born June 13, 1931, in Washington, D.C., to the late Washingtonians Elmer John "Bulldog" Sweeney and Catherine Rollins Sweeney Suit.

Mr. Sweeney served in the U.S. Army attaining the rank of Master Sergeant, E5. His duties in the Army afforded him with a discipline and basic life knowledge that he would use and pass down to his children the rest of his life. After leaving the Army, he worked for many years with the D.C. school system as a steam engineer, when schools were heated with coal. He loved motorcycle hill-climbing and bowling, in the 60's and 70's. In most recent years he enjoyed eating at Bert's Restaurant on a regular basis with his family and his greatly beloved sister, Rosemarie Moore (Douglas) of Fairfax, Virginia. Allan was always "Bubba" to his little sister, Rosemarie.

Besides his parents, Mr. Sweeney was predeceased in October by his brother, Billy Sweeney White.

He is survived by his afore mentioned sister, Rosemarie, and his ex-wife Ida Kaplan Sweeney Gannon and Ida's husband, Hank, who both were also dear loves of his life. Also remaining are his loving daughter, Brenda M. Teutsch (David) and his loving sons, Robert Barry Sweeney (Diane), John Patrick Sweeney (Susan) and Jeff Allan Sweeney (Louise); and sister Patricia Sweeney See. There are also eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Mr. Sweeney loved all of the people at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, and to whom all of the family is most grateful. He enjoyed it when he won at bingo and Keno. His passion was listening to his music, which ran the gambit from country to blues, especially Tina Turner's songs.

The family will receive friends for Daddy's Life Celebration on Saturday, December 26 from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. The Reverend Ken McDonald will conduct a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery.
