Margaret "Peggy" Thornberry, 81, of Piney Point, MD formerly of Glenn Dale, MD died December 30, 2006 in Piney Point, MD.
Born July 16, 1925 in Medford, OR, she was the daughter of the late Paul A. and Margaret Scherer. She was the beloved wife of George I. Thornberry whom she married on December 22, 1947 in Parkland, MD. She is survived by her children: Richard Thornberry of Napa, CA, Brenda Page of Glenn Dale, MD, Jeanne Halpin of Arnold, MD and George Thornberry, Jr. of Davidsonville, MD; siblings: Polly Anderson of Carmel, CA, Anne James of Medford, OR, Martha Dillen of Astoria, OR and Betsy Altman of Santa Fe, NM; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sister: Emily Brosius. Mrs. Thornberry attended West Lake School for Girls and Pomona College where she received her BA degree. She moved to St. Mary's County from Glenn Dale, MD in 1973. She worked as a school bus driver for the Prince George's County School Board. She was a member of the Lady Lions Club, Suburban, Glenn Dale, MD, VFW Ladies Auxililiary Post 2632, California, MD and the Homemakers Club, Hollywood, MD. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 5, 2007 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM. Interment will be Private.
