Catherine I. Ayling, of Prince Frederick, Maryland, formerly of La Plata, Maryland, died on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD. She was 81 years old.

Born on September 17, 1928 in White Plains, MD, she was the daughter of the late Alice Catherine Lucas and the late Thomas Augustus Simpson.

A lifelong resident of Southern Maryland, Ms Ayling worked as a mailing clerk for Diversified Mailing and later for Capital Fulfillment in Waldorf. Lovingly known as "Cathy" and "Sis", Ms Ayling enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, working in her garden, cooking and baking. She was well known for her homemade custards and prized coconut cake. She was of the Catholic faith and had attended Sacred Heart Church in La Plata.

In addition to her parents, Ms Ayling was preceded in death by her two sisters, the late Mary A. Quarles and the late Dorothy A. Ullman.

She is survived by her five children, Myrna A. Marshall and her husband Wayne of Waldorf, MD, Sandra K. Stonestreet and her husband Ralph of White Plains, MD, Douglas R, Ayling Sr. Of Welcome, MD, Cheryl A. Martin of Brandywine, MD, Alice M. Leeson and her husband John of Prince Frederick, MD; three sisters Frances Elaine Ullman, Elizabeth A. Parnell, and Margaret Theresa Ullman; two brothers Thomas A. Simpson Jr. and William C. Simpson; seven grandchildren Richard W. Marshall, Theresa M. Faunce, Scott C. Stonestreet, Steven T. Stonestreet, Douglas A. Ayling Jr., Cynthia M. Watson and Kyle A. Martin; seven great grandchildren Angela Neeno, Troy Marshall, William Kenneth Faunce III, Brandi M. Faunce, Caitlynn M. Willett, Christen B. Watson, Carleigh A. Watson and one on the way Cooper R. Ayling; one great grandson Jonathan Neeno.

Visitation on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Avenue La Plata, MD where a Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 beginning at 12Noon. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD. Pallbearers are Robert Michael Simpson, Robert Mitchell Simpson, Glen Parnell, Claude Ullman, Thomas J. Simpson, James E. Simpson and Lisa Marshall.
