Richard C. "Dick" Wescott, lifetime resident of Westbrook, died Thursday 26 Nov 2009 at the Maine Medical Hospital from emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Born 8 Sep 1938 in Westbrook Maine, he was the son of the late Clarence Elmer Wescott and the late Susie Mae Young Carras.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Mary Ann Howe Wescott, whom he married 20 Jul 1957 at Holy Angels Church in Avenue, St Mary's Co. MD; his son Michael David (Jackie), his grandchildren Michael Burnham II (Lori) of Hannibal MO, Nathan Burnham (Sarah) of South Portland, Craig Burnham of Fairbanks Alaska and Allison Wescott of Albany NY, great grandchildren Ethan, Brooke and Taylor, his half-brother Terry Carras of Windham and his half-sister Mary Lou Doherty (Al) of Prides Corner. He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Mary Teresa Burnham and his siblings Leo and Ruth Wescott.

Dick worked for S. D. Warren for 35 years, retiring in 1994. He served his country with the U.S. Navy from 8 Sep 1955 until 4 Sep 1959, stationed at Patuxent River MD (where he met his wife), Comphotoron 63 Mirimar NAS, San Diego CA, USS Bennington (CVA-20) North Island NAS, San Diego CA and USS Hancock (CVA-19) Carrier Air Group 15, Atsugi Japan. He was a member of the AmVets Post 0025; Sons of the American Legion Post 0197; and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a past member of the Jaycees. He loved sports, especially the Red Soxs and Patriots, and playing his video poker game.

The family will receive friends Sunday 29 Nov from 7-9 p.m. at the Blais-Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St, Westbrook. Following the 11 a.m. service at the funeral home, Monday 30 Nov, internment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, 207 Rochester Street, Westbrook. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughter and great grandchildren.
