Francis Joseph "Joe" Kellum, 81, formerly of LaPlata, Maryland died November 28, 2009 at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Mr. Kellum had been a resident at Charlotte Hall since January, 2008. Born November 7, 1928 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of James Harry Kellum and Katherine Agnes Shanahan Kellum.
Mr. Kellum served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Marine Corps and received the China Service Medal. Until his retirement in 1976, Mr. Kellum worked as a stonemason in the Washington, D.C. area. He was a member of AmVets, the Marine Corps League, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed collecting stamps and liquor miniatures. Besides his parents, Mr Kellum was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Mary Lillian Kellum who died January 1, 2008. He is survived by his sons, Thomas Harry Kellum and James Duncan Kellum and a daughter, Francine Morris; step daughters, Irma Simpson and Joan Herbert; grandchildren, Christie Morris and Dustin Morris, Jay and Scott Herbert, Diane Bowling and Kay Stone and 6 great- grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622 on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 from 3-7p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00p.m. Interment will take place Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.
