Dr. Warren Taylor Beard Jr. of Huntingtown, MD died Wednesday, November 18, 2009. He was 51 years old. The son of the late Warren Taylor Beard Sr and the late Jean Marie Bobick, he was born at Sibley Hospital in Washington DC on October 8, 1958.

Warren was the devoted husband of Helen K. Beard and devoted daddy to Taylor Marie Beard and Warren James Beard, all of Huntingtown, MD.

He is survived by his sisters; Alison Pruitt and her husband, Tom; and Marie Howard and her husband, Jeff.

His sister, Karen predeceased him.

He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and countless friends. Warren was a graduate of Bladensburg High School, received his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park, his masters degree from Cornell University in Ithaca NY, and his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park. He was a member of Eta Kappa Nu, the National Electrical and Computer Engineering Honor Society; Tau Beta Pi, the oldest engineering honor society in the United States; and IEEE, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Dr. Beard served as a Scientist for the National Security Agency for over 24 years - the last 8 years serving as the Chief Scientist and Technical Director for the Information Assurance Office at the National Reconnaissance Office. His innovative designs and implementations will serve as the foundation in the defense of some of our nation's most critical information systems. He leaves behind a legacy that sets a standard of excellence which continues to inspire his colleagues, as well as his friends and family.
