Leroy Alexander Hicks, Sr., 59, of La Plata, MD, died November 11, 2009, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata.

Leroy, better known to his family and friends as Hop, received his education in the Charles County Public School System.

After schooling he followed in the footsteps of his father, Leo, as a farmer until his health failed. Hop was a true Dallas Cowboy fan. He enjoyed watching wrestling, old western programs like Cheyenne, soap operas like The Young and the Restless; being outdoors and planting and caring for potted flowers. Hop's hobbies were fishing, working puzzle books and enjoying family and friends.

During the last six years of his life, Leroy was cared for by his Primary Care Provider and devoted cousin Phyllis Yates-Dorsey; his Aunt and Uncle, Agnes and Bernard Yates, Sr.; cousin, David Yates, cousin, Debbie Price and friend, Mary Barnes.

Born June 7, 1950, in Faulkner, MD, he was the son of the late Leo Wilfred Hicks and the late Alice Louise Washington-Hicks.

Predeceased by his parents; sisters, Hilda Knott and Alice Fenwick and brothers, Leo, Maurice and Earl Hicks.

Leroy leaves to cherish his memories, his son, Leroy Hicks, Jr.; granddaughter, Leah Hicks; sisters, Gloria Lancaster, Joyce Washington, Lola Mae and Sheila Hicks; six brothers, Allen and his wife Pearl, Robert, Charles, Arthur, Patrick and Wayne Hicks. LaTonya L. Knott (like a daughter); aunt, Agnes Yates; uncles, Bernard and Horace Yates. Special friends, Jimmy Thomas, Thomas Barbour and Patricia Thomas; he shared a special relationship with his favorite Uncle Mack (Bernard Yates, Sr.) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, November 20, 2009, from 9AM to 11AM, at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646.

Funeral Service will be Friday, November 20, 2009, at 11AM, at Raymond Funeral Chapel.

Rev. James W. Diggs will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Michael Hicks, Jimmy Thomas, Calvin Price, Thomas Barbour, James Wells, James Yates.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Joseph Yates, David Hicks, David Yates, and Horace Juptier.

Interment will be at Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery, Newburg, MD.
