Stanley Ketchel, 88, of La Plata, MD, died November 7, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Ketchel was a Neon Glass Blower with I.B.E.W. Local #26 for 60 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during WW II as a Coxwain. He was elected into the Boxing Hall of Fame in Washington, DC, in November 2003 and he was President and Coach during the 1950's and 60's with the Morningside/Camp Springs Boys Club. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling. He was a member of the La Plata United Methodist Church. Born August 12, 1921, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Jack Ketchel and the late Ruby Allen Ketchel. Predeceased by his parents and his wife of 61 years, Ruby Vaughan Ketchel; two brothers and one sister. Survived by sons, Stanley R. and his wife Debra Ketchel of New Hampshire and Mark V. and his wife Rita Ketchel of Waldorf, MD; daughter, Lisa A. and her husband Al White of La Plata, MD. Also survived by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, November 15, 2009, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM with prayers at 7 PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD. Funeral Service will be Monday, November 16, 2009, at 11:00 AM at La Plata United Methodist Church. Reverend Bruce Jones will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jason and Jesse Ketchel, Travis Crowe, Shawn Schneider, Al White, and Dick Jurney. Interment will be December 29, 2009, at 1 PM at Arlington National Cemetery.
