Charles Melvin Mangum, 70, of La Plata, MD, died November 9, 2009, at his residence with Hospice.
Mr. Mangum was an aircraft technician with the DC Air National Guard for 30 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the US Air Force and finished his career with the DC Air National Guard. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waldorf where he enjoyed cooking for special church events and was past usher and building and grounds committee and honorary choir member. He had a love for golf, cooking, assembling models, working on cars, football, and fishing. Born June 11, 1939, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Willis Mangum, Sr. and the late Virginia Thompson Mangum. Predeceased by his parents and granddaughter, Brianna. Survived by his wife of 45 years, Eleanor Mower Mangum; son, Charles E. Mangum of Tuscon, AZ; daughter, Debra Mangum Cole of Park Hall, MD; brothers, Leroy and his wife Gerri Mangum and Timothy and his wife Karen Mangum; grandchildren, Darren, Brian, Stephen, Eric, Lauren, and Kobe; and great-grandson, Jordan. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts. Funeral Service will be Friday, November 13, 2009, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Waldorf. Reverend Wayne Kempson will officiate.
