James W. Gibson, 82, died September 2, 2009 at Solomons Nursing Center in Solomons, MD, where he had been a resident for the past several months. Known as Jim, he was born February 19, 1927 in Lower Marlboro, MD to Merle L. Sr. and Anna E. Swann Gibson.

He attended Calvert County public schools, later moved to Temple Hills, MD and was employed as a salesman and estimator for Metcalf and Sons, an H.V.A.C. contractor located in Prince George's County. He moved to Breezy Point in Calvert County where he had resided for the past forty years, and operated a lawn and yard furniture building business for the past twenty years. He was a former member of the Lions Club and the Order of the Elks. He had a life-long love of farming, enjoyed vegetable gardening, being outdoors, making people laugh, and family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his wife Leona Julia "Noni" Gibson, and by his brother Merle L. Gibson, Jr., M.D.

He is survived by daughters Melanie A. Woodill of Wheaton, IL and Diana L. Penn and her husband Joseph of Sunderland, MD. He is also survived by grandchildren Brian McGlauflin, Natalie Cook, whom he called "Madelyn", and Leigh Ann Penn, a great-granddaughter Lillian Abell, step-children Louis Ciufolo-Dickey of Chesapeake Beach, Sharon Worth and Sandra Duquette, both of Cheltenham, MD, and a sister, Eunice V. King of Huntingtown, MD.
