Vivian Carr Howes, 85, a resident of Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick, MD since 2007, died August 18 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick.
Vivian was born October 17, 1923 in Annapolis, MD and raised in Mayo, MD. She attended Mayo Elementary and graduated from Annapolis High School, class of 1941. She also attended Strayer University, and worked as a secretary for the federal government at Andrews Air Force Base in Camp Springs, MD. She married James Rolla Howes in 1944 at St. Anne's Church in Annapolis, and they made their home on the Howes family farm in Dunkirk, MD. She was married to Rolla for over 49 years prior to his death in 1994. Vivian was a long time resident of Dunkirk, and a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Annapolis from 2002 until 2007. She was a member of Smithville United Methodist Church in Dunkirk where she sang in the church choir. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and travel. She was preceded in death by her husband Rolla and by her parents Norman E. and Isobel Harvey Carr. She is survived by a sister Mildred C. Harnage of Hixson, TN; nieces Pat Jones and Bonnie Hood of Hixson, Carol Pierce of Soddy Daisy, TN, Marlena Lopez and Kathie Sealey of Dunkirk, MD and nephews Charles T. "Chuck" Howes and James Melvin "Mel" Howes, both of Dunkirk. Also surviving are several great-nieces and great-nephews. Arrangements provided by Rausch Funeral Home.
