Margaret Theresa Flaherty Thompson, 81, of Charlotte Hall (formerly of Silver Hill), died August 18, 2009 at her residence.

Born April 23, 1928 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Edward M. and Isabelle M. Flaherty.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret I. Brown and son-in-law, Fred, and by her son, George M. Thompson (Milton). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christine Owens (Maurice), Karen Boecher (Richard), Sharon Thompson, and Leslie Locke. She has seven great-grand children, W. Maurice (Jr.), M. Anthony, Blake, and Bryce Owens, Mackenzie, Garrett and Gavin Boecher and many other friends and relatives.

Margaret grew up in Washington, DC until the age of 13. She moved to Silver Hill and remained there until September 2005. She retired as an Accounts Receivable Clerk at Hecht Co., Marlow Heights. She was a lifetime member of the Silver Hill Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She loved dancing, bowling, Elvis Presley, and music by the Eagles. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening. She was most referred to as "Nana". Her favorite pass-times were reading, doing cross-word puzzles, watching her favorite game shows, and spending time eating junk food with her great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Thompson, her brothers, George W. Flaherty, Edward T. (Boy) Flaherty and her sister Isabelle M. Parker. In addition, she was preceded in death by her son, Matthew A. Thompson, and her grandchildren, Elaine and Thomas Brown; and her great-grandson, J. Dustin Owens.

The family received friends for Margaret's Life Celebration on Thursday, August 20, 2009 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 3-195, Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD, where prayers were held at 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated today, August 21, 2009 at 10:30am by Father Woods at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 28297 Old Village Rd., Mechanicsville, MD. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, MD.

Pallbearers will be Edward Flaherty, John Flaherty, William Honeycutt, Maurice Owens, Jr., Philip Buehler, and Anthony Mongello. Donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis/Pulmonary Clinic, Children's Hospital, 111 Michigan Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20010-2970 or to Hospice of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
