James Daniel Alvey, 78 of Charlotte Hall, MD died on August 11, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital, Leonardtown, MD.

Born on August 7, 1931 in Mechanicsville, MD, he was the son of the late Harry Joseph and Mary Helen Pilkerton Alvey. Mr. Alvey spent the majority of his life as a farmer and carpenter. He truly made the world a better place. Dan enjoyed cars, dancing, playing cards, spending time with his family, and loved bluegrass music and would attend annual bluegrass festivals.

Survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Abell, whom he married on February 7, 1953. Also survived by his children, Carolyn Jean and her husband, Stephen Gillingham, Patty E., Danny, Michael and his wife, Barbara Jean, siblings, Frances Johnson, Doris Silman, Eleanor Buckler, and William Bernard Alvey, all of Mechanicsville, MD, grandchildren, Kenneth Thomas Gillingham, Brett Daniel Gillingham, and Jared Michael Alvey.

He is predeceased by siblings, Mary "Sissy" Cargill, Margaret Gass, and Harry J. Alvey.

Family will receive friends to Celebrate Dan's Life today, Friday, August 14, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. with prayers being recited at 7 p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch RD., Charlotte Hall, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 28297 Old Village Rd., Mechanicsville, MD with Father Robert Pittman officiating. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bushwood, MD.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Bernard Alvey, Danny Alvey, Michael Alvey, Joseph Cargill, Brett Gillingham, and Kenny Gillingham.
