Mary Anne Baldus Mudd, 85, died at her home in La Plata, MD on August 6, 2009. A lifelong resident of Charles County, she was born on February 9, 1924 and attended St. Mary's School in Bryantown, graduating from Sacred Heart High School in La Plata.
She married Patrick C. Mudd on September 16, 1943 and presided over their happy home in La Plata, where she raised four children. A loving wife and mother, she cared for not only her own children but numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and eventually, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She supported her husband's political career as Clerk of the Circuit Court in La Plata and matched his civic good-will. As a couple, "Pat and Marry Anne" were known for their kindness and good deeds, many of them performed quietly, with extraordinary generosity of spirit. An avid golfer, she also enjoyed flower arranging, gardening, and all aspects of homemaking. She was as active parishoner first at Sacred Heart Church in La Plata and in later years at St. Ignatius Church, Chapel Point. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl R. Baldus, Sr. and Mary Madeline Bray Baldus; her husband, Patrick Conroy Mudd; and an infant son, Patrick C. Mudd, Jr. Survivors include children Richard B. Mudd and wife Brenda, Patricia Mudd Jenkins and husband Bill, John E. Mudd and wife Tina, all of La Plata, and Melissa Mudd of Woodbury, CT; beloved friend Flo Perry of Woodbury, CT; brother Carl R. Baldus, Jr. and wife Bobbi of La Plata; sister Elizabeth Baldus McGlynn of Summerville, SC; grandchildren Ryan Mudd and his wife Laurie, Kelly Mudd Heath and her husband David, Zachary Mudd, Sarah Doty Capezio and her husband Brian, Alexis Mudd, and John Patrick Mudd, Matthew Lee Spalding; and great-grandchildren Madelyn, Molly, and Lucy Mudd, and Cameryn, Alyssa and Ashlee Heath. Visitation will be at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. on Sunday, August 9, 2009 from 2 pm until 4 pm and 6 pm until 8 pm with prayers at 7 pm. Mass will be held on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 11 am at St. Ignatius Church Chapel Point. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Newport Catholic Church.
