Dorothy Louise Whalen, 81, of La Plata, MD, died July 7, 2009, at Genesis La Plata Center.

Mrs. Whalen was a licensed Nurse who worked at University Hospital in Baltimore, MD, and later as a Private Duty Nurse. She enjoyed sewing, ballroom dancing, traveling and dogs. She was of the Methodist faith.

Born December 9, 1927, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Alice Keith Boston and the late William Boston.

Predeceased by her parents; sisters, Meta Nelson, Sheria Boston and Norma Gordon; brother, Leroy Holley; sister-in-law Ruby Whalen.

Survived by her husband, Melvin Eugene Whalen; daughter, Leonora Thomas; sister, Constance Duppins; grandchildren, Charlton Thomas and Charles Thomas; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Thomas and Charlize Thomas, and sister-in-law, Joyce Neale. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 11, 2009, from 11AM to 1:00PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 12:30PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel.

Reverend Harry Seawright will officiate.

Interment will be Private.

Repast will be at the home of Leonora Thomas.
