William "Bill" Edward Garvey, Jr., 87, of La Plata, MD passed away on June 28, 2009 at his Residence. Born on May 19, 1922 in Baltimore, MD.

He is preceded in death by his Parent's; William Garvey, Sr. and Margaret Garvey.

He is survived by his Wife; Anna Garvey of La Plata, Maryland. Son; Bill Garvey and wife Ayse of Istanbul, Turkey. Daughter; Kathy Garvey of Palm Bay, Florida. Son; Anthony Garvey and wife Rosey of Bonnieville, Kentucky. Son; Pat Garvey of Reston, Virginia. Son; Ned Garvey and wife Angela of La Plata, Maryland. Daughter; Mary Garvey of Furnance Mountian, Kentucky. Son; John Garvey of Miami Beach, Florida. Daughter; Liz Printz of Lusby, Maryland. Son; Francis Garvey and wife Anita of Reston, Virginia. His Sister; Marian Garvey of Annapolis, Maryland. And beloved nieces and nephews. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

William was married to Anna Garvey for 64 years. He was a Charles County Extension Agent from 1951 thru 1963. He was a Foreign Service Officer with tours in Morocco as Peace Corp Director, in Niger, Zaire, and Haiti as an Agricutrual Economist for USAID before and after Morocco. He also worked at the Academy for Educational Development in Washington D.C. and at the Cooperative League of the USA. His Consecutive years in the area were 87 years.

He attended High School at Mount Saint Joseph's School in Baltimore, MD. In his College years he got his B.S. in Forestry from Syracuse University, Magna Cum Laude. He received his Master's Degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School at Harvard University. He also had done post graduate work in Economics from the University of Maryland.

He Military Service included active duty in the Army/Air Fore from 1943 thru 1946. After serving active duty, he went into the Air Force Reserve with an Honorable Discharge in 1975. He received a Department of State Superior Honor Award in 1978. He also was a member of the Spanish Club of the College of Southern Maryland.

A viewing will be on Thursday, July 2, 2009 from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm with prayers at 7 pm. at the AREHART-ECHOLS FUNERAL HOME, P.A. A Mass will follow on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 11 am at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Chapel Point, MD. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made the Carmelite Nuns, Hospice of Charles County, or the St. Ignatius Building Fund.
