Odessa Pearl Smallwood, 79, of Bryans Road, MD, died June 9, 2009, at her residence.

Mrs. Smallwood was a homemaker and a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church, Ripley Road, La Plata, MD. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, antiquing, playing cards, needlepoint, ceramics, fishing, and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Born October 31, 1929, in Bedford, VA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Lawrence Stevens and the late Mallie Blankenship Stevens.

Predeceased by her parents and her husband, Garland Smallwood.

Survived by son, Berkley D. and his wife Connie Smallwood of Port Tobacco, MD; daughter, Belinda C. and her husband Richard Kennon of La Plata, MD; sisters, Shirley English of Bedford, VA; Janiece Corning of Midlothian, VA; grandchildren, Wendy Alsup, Jim Ludwick, Mandy and Wade Smallwood. Also survived by four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 11, 2009, from 5-8 PM at Bethel Baptist Church, Ripley Road, La Plata, MD.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 7 PM at Bethel Baptist Church.

Rev. Mack Burton will officiate.

Additional viewing and service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009, in Huddleston, VA.
