Harry Orlin Shughart of Port Tobacco, Maryland, died on Monday, June 1, 2009, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He was 76 years old.
Born on November 23, 1932, in Brandon, Iowa, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Irene Power Shughart and the late Frank Peter Shughart. Mr. Shughart served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War until he was Honorably Discharged in 1956. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in the garden when he could, watching NASCAR racing and he especially loved his three beagles, Shiloh, Teena and Earlene. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0297. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred W. Shughart, Leroy C. Shughart, Frank R. Shughart, Robert L. Shughart, Lyle C. Shughart,; his sisters, Frances E. Shughart, Lois J. Westendorf and Leorta S. Demmel. He is survived by his children, W. Earl Shughart of Dentsville; Jacqueline E."Jackie" and her husband Mike Willett of Port Tobacco; Harry O. II and his wife Katherine of Waldorf; Teena Y. and her husband Jeff Schwering of Fenton, Missouri; sisters. Olive L., Mary Louise, Frances Darlene, Ruth Joan and Minnie Belle; grandchildren, Kimberly D. Beswick, Krystle M. Shughart, Samantha B. Snider, Marlena M. Chaney, Jessica L. Chaney and Mackenzie S. Shughart; twin great granddaughters, Addison D. and Camrynn J. Beswick. Visitation on Sunday, June 7, 2009, from 2PM to 4PM and from 6PM to 8PM with American Legion Memorial Service at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD where Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2009, at 11:30AM. Interment to follow at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O.
