Dennis Arnold Herber, age 69 of Owings, MD died May 23, 2009 at his residence. He was born June 15, 1939 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Arnold J. and Eunice M. (Blodgett) Herber. He was raised in Maryland and attended catholic school in Washington, DC. Dennis served in the Marine Corps from June 29, 1956 until being discharged as a Lance Corporal on April 15, 1959.

After his military service he joined his father in business as an optician in Washington, DC. He was later employed as an electrician for PEPCO and then as a high voltage electrician at the switch gear shop of the Government Service Administration until retiring in 1986. He then resumed his career with his father at Chesapeake Bay Opticians in Chesapeake Beach, MD.

Mr. Herber was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in North Beach and the Knights of Columbus Council 7870. He enjoyed skiing, bingo, keno and working in his yard but his family was first and foremost in his life, having raised four children himself.

He was predeceased his parents, a son Dennis M. Herber and brothers Richard and David Herber.

He is survived by three children Janet Marie Cassavaugh (Thomas) of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Deborah Lynn Moasser of Huntingtown, MD and John Stephen Herber of South Carolina, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and sisters Diane Hancock (Donald) of Severna Park, MD and Patricia Blaine (Bucky) of Florida.
