Stephen Nicholas Norris, Jr, of Cobb Island, Maryland, age 84, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, at the Charlotte Hall Veteran's Home, after a long, well-fought battle with cancer and Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Washington DC on September 10, 1941, to Stephen Nicholas Norris, Sr and Margaret Adelaide Norris (Jenkins).
Stevie, except for 4 years of honorable Military Service in the United States Marine Corps, enjoyed his life on Cobb Island, Maryland. He was very proud of his military time, serving in Viet Nam from 1965-1966; after attending bootcamp, training, and stationed among other places Parris Island, Camp Pendleton, and Camp Lejeune. His final station was Quantico, VA, where he commuted daily upon purchasing his first, last, and only home on his lovely Cobb Island. Stevie was so proud of his service and being a USMC, that often we kids had to remind him that he had other "accomplishments" to be proud of -namely a wife, and four children. He also was very proud of the life of his father, as well as his own knowledge of and experiences on the water to include oystering, crabbing, and shucking houses, and his vast, random knowledge of history. He was very proud to be included in the oral history of oystering in Southern Maryland giving a recorded interview with the Calvert Marine Museum, along with some items for display at the museum. That made for many a family visit to the museum. His recording can be found online and was played numerous times at his bedside these past months. His children could tell you how most (all) family vacations as young people were to historical museums and battlefields. The grandchildren could tell you how often he would take them to DC, to various museums and monuments, and Poppop parked often in spots that resulted in the car being pushed up over the curb during rush hour, sometimes also ticketed. All the kids, grands, nieces and nephews would remember his determination to visit the river as often as possible, whether just for the view, to check the tides and the conditions, or swim, fish, crab, and collect shells and rocks. Stevie is preceded in death by his first love, Leonardine Vianney Norris (Murphy), who passed away after 49 years of marriage. He is also preceded in death by his siblings Nancy Giacalone (Mike); James Norris; David Terry Norris; and John Norris (Linda). He is survived by his new love, Doris Jean Norris (Robertson) who was kind and steadfast in his care for his final years. They enjoyed many days traveling the local area, cooking together, and talking. And they enjoyed a meal at Horne's Restaurant often, as that was where they had their first date. Stevie is also survived by his children Stephen Norris, III (Sherri); Jacqueline Norris-Johnston (Bob); Roger Norris (Angelica); and Christopher Norris; and his baby sister, Gloria Burley (Pat); and his sister-in-law Margaret Norris. Stevie also carries a legacy of grands and great-grands, who he adored, spoiled, and loved dearly including grandchildren Ernest Lenzy Oliver, Jr (Heather); Clarence Richardson (Ursula); David Alan Beckman, Jr; Jessica Norris; and great-grandchildren Bentley Oliver, Penelope Oliver, Keyon Campbell and Kamari Campbell. During his life, Stevie was able to spoil, antagonize, tease, or become a favorite to many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends of those family members. Services will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 15848 Rock Point Road, Issue, MD 20664. Viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m., followed by Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow Mass at the Holy Ghost Cemetery 12495 Swan Point Rd, Newburg MD 20664.
