George Freeman Holt, 77, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on March 24, 2026 at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, MD, with his loving family at his side.

He was born at home on April 11, 1948 to the late James Foley Holt and Helen Marie (Rustin) Holt. He is the youngest of their ten children and grew up on the family farm. As a teen and young man, he enjoyed hunting and playing softball with his siblings.

On November 30, 1968, George married the love of his life, Sarah J. (Milburn) Holt at Our Lady's Catholic Church – Medley's Neck in Leonardtown, MD. From their union two daughters were born. George was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was a man of few words with a great sense of humor.

He received his education at the St. Joseph's Colored School in Morganza, MD. He worked several occupations including tobacco farming and construction prior to joining the St. Mary's County Board of Education as a Building Maintenance Technician. He retired in 2000, after 30 years of service at Chopticon High School.

George was a good cook, his specialty being soups and stews. He was skilled with his hands performing carpentry, plumbing, auto repair and could fix just about anything. His other hobbies were fishing, tending his garden, watching movies and spending time with his family.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sarah and daughters, Duana P. Holt-Nelson (Brock) of Leonardtown, MD and Shana J. Holt of Mechanicsville, MD; brothers, Robert A. Holt and Harry I. Holt, both of Mechanicsville, MD; godson, John M. Gray, Sr. of Hollywood, MD; mother-in-law, Sarah A. Milburn of Leonardtown, MD; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: James L. Holt, Marie A. Mason, Francis A. Holt, William D. Holt, Sr., Charles L. Holt, Sr; Georgiana C. Gray, Joseph N. Holt; and goddaughter, Brenda C. (Gray) Miles.

Family will receive friends on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m., with the Rosary being prayed at 10:45 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 28297 Old Village Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Paul Nguyen at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Mechanicsville, MD.

Serving as pallbearers will be: John M. Gray, Sr., Walter A. Mason, Jr., Terrence L. Mason, Christopher A. Miles, Vaughn A. Mason, and Tristen G. Brown, Sr.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Robert A. Holt, Harry I. Holt, Wayne Gray, and Allen Mason.
